Wungong Urban Development
- Background
- The Wungong Urban Development covers an area of over 1400 hectares and is expected to accommodate over 16,000 homes with a projected population of around 40,000 people. The master plan encompasses best practice in sustainable urban development, ensuring integrated development of the myriad of small and large rural landholdings.
- Summary
- The project will provide a wide range of local residential, commercial, retail and educational opportunities in compact urban neighborhoods. A key feature of the plan is the provision of community parks along avenues of eucalypt-lined public open space radiating from the Wungong River, providing a network of active open space and green links throughout the entire project area linked to local and regional destinations. The design team for the Wungong Urban Water Master Plan was AUDRC Director Richard Weller, Tinka Sack and The Planning Group. The design team was advised by Sharni Howe and Patric de Villiers. The project won the Planning Institute of Austalia’s (WA Division) 2007 President’s Award for Planning Excellence and PIA’s 2007 Award for Environmental or Conservation Planning.
